In late 2011 and throughout 2012 BCAT engaged a consultant to assist with a review of the organisation. The Review highlighted the key elements of the work of BCAT, and recommended the formalisation of the BCAT POWER 6 Stage Pathway Model. The adoption/testing and adaption of the model will assist BCAT in moving forward to ensure it continues to provide appropriate, evidence based, comprehensive addiction supports for people at every stage along their drug/alcohol use trajectory.
The Review identified the strengths of BCAT under the acronym POWER:
- Person Centred
- Open Access
- Wraparound Services
- Evidence Based Psychosocial Supports
- Rational and Non-Judgmental
With the work of BCAT focusing on all the stages of drug/alcohol use. From a service delivery point of view, the stages mirror the Transtheoretical Model of Change, with services tailored to assist people with drug/alcohol problems through the stages.
